In a bid to address climate change and its impact through promoting mitigation and adaptation measures such as environmental conservation, Equity Bank Uganda in partnership with the Kenya High Commission has donated 85 million shillings to Busoga College Mwiri to support the forestation initiative across the Mwiri hill and its surrounding areas through tree planting.

The initiative projects to plant over 100,000 trees in the next 3 years starting with 45000 trees planted on 110 acres in the next 3 seasons.

While launching the project on Saturday 13th April 2024 at Mwiri College Mwiri, the CEO of Equity Bank Uganda, Elizabeth Mwerinde marked the beginning of the tree planting campaign by plating by planting the first tree together with Maj. Gen. George Owinow, Kenya High Commissioner to Uganda and Busoga College Mwiri student's representative.

She said that it was agreed to plant 10 acres filled with fruit trees to be named “Equity Orchard”.

The name of the Equity Orchard and Forest according to Mwiri College Mwiri, agreed upon with the Busoga College Mwiri Headmaster Mr. Peter Sibukule after a meeting with Equity Bank Staff in his office during the launch of the Tree Planting Campaign.

Maj. Gen. George Owinow, Kenya's High Commissioner to Uganda said that “the initiative aims to plant 45,000 trees across 110 acres over the next three seasons”

Meanwhile, Equity Bank Uganda also has inked a partnership with the Drugs Express Rally team as as official sponsor for the team during this SMC Masaka challenge Rally season

During the MOU signing ceremony The Head of marketing & Corporate Communications, Clare Mukuru said "When Moustapha Mukasa approached us regarding the initiative, we realized that he was also our good customer, So we took a short time to partner with him"

While the Drugs Express Rally Team Lead Dr. Moustapha Mukasa said "We promise our team, fans, families and friends, sponsor Equity Bank Uganda and the FMU fraternity that we shall do our very best as we continue showcasing our capabilities"
