At 3-1, the National Basketball League record champions’ qualification chances were kept alive with two games left to play.

In the Tuesday’s encounter, City Oilers showed intent as they earned a two-point (23-21) lead at the end of the first period.

Amidst pressure from the holders, Oilers held on as they dragged their three-point (38-35) lead into the long break.

Coming from the locker rooms, Al Ahly were in beast mood limiting Oilers to 18 points as they dropped 29.

However, Oilers took the game to Al Alhly in the final quarter as they fought hard to seal a one-point sweet but gusty victory.

Randy Lechard Culpepper’s clutch lay up tied the game 81-81 with 50 seconds to play before his one of the two free throws made won the game.

Once again, the 17-year-old Khaman Maluach led City Oilers’ scoresheet with a double double dropping 27 points and pulling down 16 rebounds.

Randy Lechard Culpepper and Dane Anthony Miller Jr were the other City Oilers’ players to score a double as they dropped 20 and 14 points respectively.

For Al Ahly, Patrick Gardner (19), Ehad Amin Saleh (15), Omar Tarek Oraby (13) and Tony Rasean Mitchell (11) led the scoring.

Next on the menu, City Oilers will seek to maintain winning ways as they play against Bangui and Al Ahly Benghazi on April 26 and 27 respectively.
