Buikwe’s Quality High School dethrones St Julian in boys’ football | 2025 USSSA Mukono Zone

Boys:
- Final: St Julian High School 0-1 Quality High School Buikwe
- Girls: Lugazi Homestone School 1 (3) – 1 (4) Mukono Kings
The 2025 USSSA Mukono zone football championships successfully concluded at the St Kalemba SS playground on Sunday, 13th April.
Quality High School Buikwe won the boys’ championship, overcoming the reigning national champions St Julian High School (Mukono campus) 1-0 in the finale.
The epic duel kicked off on a high tempo as forward Hirodi Koma Lazze netted the game’s only goal.
It was a beautiful diving header off a corner inside the opening 120 seconds of the well-attended match.
In the 5th minute, Marvin Rwothomio watched in disbelief as his penalty was saved by St Julian High School goalkeeper Harunah Brighton who dived to his right to tame the effort.

Quality High School Buikwe will need to appreciate their talismanic goalkeeper Calton Muwonge for the leadership and darling saves made throughout the game.
This is the first ever trophy for Quality High School Buikwe at the zonal level, having also successfully defended the Buikwe district title and will play for the second successive time at the nationals.
Head coach Peter Sserumaga cited the victory to adequate preparations and brave teamwork.
“We commenced the preparations early. The players played like gallant soldiers with great determination” Sserumaga stated.
Quality High School Buikwe and St Julian High School Mukono will be joined by Namagabi SS and Mehta SS to represent the Mukono zone in the upcoming nationals that will be hosted in Ngora district.
Meanwhile, Mukono Kings also won the girls overall title, successfully defending their zonal trophy.



Mukono Kings defeated a hard fighting Lugazi Homestone School 4-3 in post-match penalties after normal time had ended 1-all.
Nabillah Nawoma, Aidah Namuwonge, Valencia Nagayi and Shanitah Nakakooza netted the penalties for Mukono Kings.
Sawuya Mutalaza, Elizabeth Kuluva and Mercy Wasagali were on target for Lugazi Homestone whilst Ritah Kadondi and Victoria Nabbona missed their respective kicks to send Mukono Kings players, officials and fans into ecstasy.
An overjoyed Mukono Kings head coach Muhammed Kigozi lauded the school management for the support which included a camp for the players.
He also cited the brave effort of the players throughout the district and zonal championship.
“I am excited for this victory. I wish to thank the school management for all the support of preparing the team with an early camp. I also appreciate the players for the dedicated team effort. We are now focused for the nationals” Kigozi stated.
The nationals in girls’ football will be hosted in Bukedea district.
The closing ceremony was graced by several dignitaries who included the
USSSA third Vice President Harriet Margaret Apolot, Christopher Kibirige (Kayunga district sports officer), Apollo Liada (ASSHU Kayunga chairperson), Mukono zone executive committee members, games masters and other personalities.
