Humanity undertakes the brave journey of metamorphosis from early days as a toddler, child age, early teen, late teens, adolescents, adulthood through to frail old age.

Like a butterfly cycle that once leaves as a caterpillar, human-beings go through various delicate stages before growing up to make meaningful decisions.

Key life changing decisions that are bold ought to be planned and executed with one heart.

When Benjamin Mugume decided to leave active football as a player to transform into a coach, a section doubted his decision.

Mugume only left active playing barely a year ago before he called it a day to concentrate on coaching and grooming the future generation of footballers.

“It was not an easy decision to make” Mugume recounts. “I have always wanted to guide my fellow players. After a much thought moment, I made the decision and today, I have no regrets” he adds.

Mugume started a football academy in 2019 called St. Sebastian’s Academy in Bugembe, Jinja city after drawing the inspiration from Hassan Zzungu, a celebrated coach who has handled many youth players in Eastern Uganda.

By this time, he was still a student at Nazigo based St Mathias Kalemba Secondary School where he also played.

Prior to secondary school life, he also played at Main Street Primary School where his football journey kicked off.

During the 2020-2021 season, Mugume played at Entebbe Pride Football Club in the fourth tier football pyramid of Uganda’s football.

In the year 2024, Mugume volunteered as assistant coach at Mathias Kalemba Secondary School, Nazigo during the Kayunga district football championship.

Working alongside head coach Isaac Kitakule, Mugume guided St Mathias Kalemba SS to their first ever Kayunga district football trophy in as many years.

“Winning the district trophy with St Mathias Kalemba SS alongside coach Isaac (Kitakule) was great and memorable. I am humbled as a person and it will motivate me to aim for higher things” Mugume revealed.

Mugume would wish to embark on the coaching badges at the different levels commencing with the beginners, CAF D, C, B, A and pro licences.
