Glass-free HD 3D displays, also known as autostereoscopic displays, are a three-dimensional display technology that allows viewers to perceive depth and three-dimensionality without the use of special glasses or eyewear. Traditional 3D displays, such as those found in movie theatres, need viewers to wear glasses that separate the left and right eye pictures in order to produce the sensation of depth.

Technological advancement has resulted in the autostereoscopy, a method of displaying stereoscopic images into 3D images without any glasses on part of the viewer. Multiple views and eye tracking are the two approaches being used to accommodate the motion. This eliminates the need for the display to sense viewer’s eyes. Manufacturers are using various technologies such as parallax barrier, light field display, lenticular display technology, etc., to offer better image quality with high resolution. The automultiscopic display is offered in slightly offset way which looks different when seen from different angles, thus creating a 3D effect that can be viewed without 3D glasses. However, the cost is still the biggest concern in the glass-free HD 3D display market.
