What the Non-Executive Directors awards mean to the NSSF Acting Managing Director,  Ayota and 8 others.

The Acting Managing Director of, National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and Chairman of Board Vision Group, Patrick Ayota, The MTN Chairman Charles Mbire, were among the business leaders recognized for transforming their organizations during the at this year’s Non-Executive Directors (NED) awards.

 

The awards that were organized by The League of East African Directors (LEAD) with partners recognized the Non-Executive Directors (NED), commonly referred to as chairpersons of the Board, for the roles they have played in the growth of their respective organizations at colorful event that was held at Sheraton Hotel

The Chairman Board Vision Group and The NSSF Acting MD Ayota was the winner in the Mass Communication category. Ahead of his close contender, Prof Samuel Sejjaaka, to the award.

In his acceptance speech, Ayota applauded the two boards he belongs to for choosing him.

“I thank the family of Vision Group and NSSF. I thank all of you who save with us,” he said

Mr Japheth Kato, the Board Chairman of Uganda Breweries Limited, Standard Chartered Bank and Capital Markets Authority, took the award of Chairman Listed Company, an accolade he shared with Mr Mbire.

Kato acknowledged the role Mbire has played in revolutionising the telecommunications sector in Uganda and leading MTN into becoming a listed company, adding that Mbire deserved the award more than anyone else.

Mbire on his part described MTN Uganda as the Corporate Mulokole of Uganda, having taken a journey of impossible feats to the top through resilience and above board practices.

Other winners included Mr George Egadu, the Board Chair of MTN Foundation, who won the Life Time Award; Former Finance Minister, Hon. Gerald Sendaula was given the utilities accolade after outshining Hon. Col. Stephen Basaliza as well as former Commissioner of the Electoral Commission, Eng. Dr. Badru Kiggundu in the this segment. The Board Chairman Centenary Bank, Mr Gustavo Bwotch, won the award in the Financial services category.

Gertrude Karugaba, the chairperson of NED 2022 Awards, said the winners deserve the accolades for the tireless role they play behind the curtains for the growth of their different companies and organisations.

 

The award event was sponsored by MTN Uganda, Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), Stanbic Bank Uganda, Centenary Bank, Uganda Clays Limited, Civil Aviation Authority as well as NCBA bank and Vision Group among other partners.
