Under the Voluntary Income Tax Assistant training program (VITA), Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) together with The Makerere University Tax Society at Makerere University are skilling students in tax areas of e-return fillings, EFRIS, and e-payments among others in a bid to create a tax alert generation.

At Makerere University during the VITA training, hundreds of students were trained in tax processes and systems, a tax education that lasted for 2 days from 16th to 17th July 2022 in the CTI Big Lab at Makerere University.

While answering a student’s question one Gideon, on how to access the program after the Makerere training, Andrew Kyakonye pictured above told him that the programme was accessible to students in universities and association members.

“The VITA training program for now is accessible to students in Universities and Association members at their offices. If you happen to belong to any association, we can make an arrangement to extend the training to you and your comrades,” he said

Tax societies are student-centered associations found in private and public Universities of Uganda working in partnership with the Uganda Revenue Authority to nurture and empower youths and communities with information on tax matters with the aim to promote a taxpaying culture through an engaged citizenry.

There are more than 19 tax societies in Uganda’s private and public universities.
