President Museveni virtually commissions 50 NWSC water projects, commits to boost funding to the corporation.

While celebrating 50 years of service delivery to Uganda, National Water nada Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) at Kololo on the 2nd Dec’2022, The President of Uganda HE Yoweri K. Museveni officiated the function and virtually commissioned 50 water delivery projects across Uganda.

“I reiterate the government’s commitment to supporting NWSC to extend piped, safe, clean water to more households and people across the country. I have therefore launched 50 NWSC delivery projects (virtually) across the country in that regard” he said

The President applauded the board and management of NWSC for the milestones over the years

“I thank the board and management led by Eng Dr Silver Mugisha for developing the capacity of the Corporation. You have shown that government companies can make money” he said

Among the projects launched includeds: Katosi Drinking Water Treatment Plant, Nakivubo Waste Water Treatment Plant, Katosi – Kampala Transmission Mains, Nakivubo and Kinawataka Sewers Network, Kinawataka Pre-treatment and Pumping Station, Gaba 1&2 Water Treatment Plants Refurbishment, Arua Water Management and Development 8. Bushenyi Water Management and Development, Gulu Water Management and Development among others

The President also pledged to add more funds to the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) to enable serve more people with water and sanitation services following a request by the managing director Dr. Silver Mugisha for increased funding of an extra Ugx 30bn.

The theme of the event was: “Accelerating sustainable water and sanitation for all”.

Dr. Silver said that NWSC has made great milestones over the years and among the achievements is increasing the number of towns under national water from 22 districts in 2012 to 263 towns in 2021 with a projection of 300 towns by 2026.
