The new water pumping station that is nearing completion by National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC)  in Masaka city will boost water supply in addition to the already existing 2 facilities that supply 5.52 million m3 of water daily, or 230,000 m3 of water per hour with a total production of 9.36 million m3 of water per day.

This according to National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) will strengthen the supply of drinking water to the people of Masaka town in central Uganda and increase its efficiency in Masaka City in the center of Uganda adjacent to Lake Victoria

The Regional Manager of NWSC  Masaka. Emmanuel Mujuni, said that the new station started operation on 1st January 2023 pumping water from Lake Victoria and that the raw water will be transported to the Nabajjuzi drinking water plant which has been rehabilitated.

“Our clients have been complaining about irregular water supply, but with this new pump, we shall be able to meet the current water demand. We are going to start installing it and by January 1, it will be operational,” he said.

He said that the water resource will be stored in the four Masaka town reservoirs located at Bwala Hill, Boma, Kitovu and Kyabakuza.

The procurement of the new pump has followed complaints from city dwellers of intermittent water supply with some city suburbs not getting water for over a week which raised a lot of concerns among city dwellers, mainly those whose businesses require high water supply.

NWSC supplies 230,000 cubic metres of water every month in Masaka and sells about 175,000 cubic metres with an average billing of Shs900m,according to Nuwamanya a water engineer

a total of  55,000 cubic metres are lost to leakages which take time to be fixed due to low man power.
