KIU’s new centre of innovation, entrepreneurship and research to nurture students skills
Kampala International University (KIU) has set up a new centre to manage innovation, entrepreneurship, and research aimed at nurturing students skills to match with industry needs and creation of home made solution to community problems.
This according to KIU is intended to incubate student ideas and get them ready to join the working world while at school.
The Vice Chancellor KIU Dr. Mouhamad Mpezamihingo while talking to the press on Friday 19th August 2022 at the campus said that incubation centre will partner with selected industries to support student business ideas, innovations, and research including apps, robotic products, publications, journals, multi media among others.
“KIU will identify industry partners to support business ideas through incubation. We shall register the new ideas with URSB so that they are patented” he said
The VC said that KIU will advance academia, bridge, business and industrial needs to avoid important of ideas for home made solutions.
The Business Incubation Center according to the VC will provide basic infrastructure and allied facilities for researchers and young entrepreneurs who are interested in developing early-stage businesses.
Anita Malinga, an expert at the centre said that the centre will take students through mentorship programs, nurture them in soft and hands on skills to prepare them for job placements after school.
The Director Research and Innovation Dr. Hashim Bishallah said that innovation centre will support talents I to business through projects like hackathon which he said is open to all students to create original processes of mentorship.
Meanwhile KIU has been ranked at continental, regional and national level by Webmetric as 2nd in Uganda, 5th in East Africa and 58th in Africa respectfully.
Among the accredited PhDs at KIU includes; Pharmacy, Chemistry, Computer Science, Information Technology among others.
For post graduate diplomas, Masters, and PhDs, KIU has offered and is implementing a 50% waiver with terms including 50% discount on tuition fees, opn for both Ugandan s and foreign students, advance 50% payment on the side of the students, among others.
