Experts roots for advanced science and technology to boost industrialization as Shumuk Group’s role in economic devpt is recognised.
Time is coming when new technology designed from artificial intelligence will out compete human resource and people will loose jobs. There is need to catch up with the new technology to through an advanced science and technology foundation to organise industrial production.
Experts from different fields including academia, agriculture, business among others have highlighted that in order to overcome the stagnation of Africa’s development stagnation and failure to take off and achieve desired goals, there is need to address is the challenge of luck of advanced science and technology needed to solve the social-biological challenges.
The experts have said that the different areas including medical, agriculture, education, infrastructure and others need to integrate science and technology to progress.
According to Dr. Otanga Rusoke in picture above, an Academic expert said that in order to address the challenge of a failed science and technology African continent, there is need to establish a modern science and technology foundation including politechnics for advanced science and technology to produce technology experts that will produce locally to substitute imports and link government authority in different areas to respective universities to boost industrialization to compete on global markets.
“We need re-organise higher education with specific courses for students to join in various sciences. We be need more than 60 polytechnics for science and technology to produce engineering experts to produce equipments for industrial development, about 40 modern cities to build new factories to run modern science to catch up with the new technology” he said
During the End of year event and 10 years celebration of Ambrosoli Consult Uganda, Shumuk Group of Companies was recognised for the exemplary contribution to Uganda’s economic development over the years.
While talking to the press on the sidelines of the event the General Manager Shumuk Group Dan Muhumuza who represented the Chairman said that some of the challenges that continue to face industries include high cost of credit, high cost of electricity, high cost of imports transport, non tariff barriers among others.
He however said when they decried the high cost of electricity, government has responded and promised to address the issue in next financial year.
He added that as Shumuk, they have added value to make quality aluminum products.
“We contribute to environmental conservation through adding value to scrap from Kampala and beyond to make quality aluminum household materials. Our outcry on high tariffs on power was heard by government” he said
Retired Lieutenant Moses Magufuli pictures above, from Operation Wealth Creation said that for effective implementation of the Parish Development Model, there is need to establish an agriculture and Cooperative bank that will consolidate the scattered funds of other programmes pulled into one bank to grow the sector faster and avoid high interest rates of commercial banks.
“For Parish development modal to be more effective let directorate of extension services (MAAIF) mediate between parish modal committees at all levels. Once the agricultural and cooperative bank is established, it will allow demand driven projects to take off” he said
He is optimistic that if a government controlled bank like Post Bank is turned into an agriculture and Cooperative bank, it will effectively implement the model while calling upon the support of stakeholders.
“This calls upon Mps, NGOs, government and other stakeholders, especially 11th parliamentarians to support magufuri's proposal to have Post Bank Uganda be changed into agricultural and cooperative bank for effective implementation of parish devolopment model , Uganda has scattered funds like wealth funds, microfinance, SMEs , luwero, emyooga, women, Youthlivelyhood, northern funds , agriculture facility funds etc pool it into one bank” he said
