Education Minister Janet Museveni calls for enhanced support to vocational education for the youth as 180 graduates at Victory School of Beauty & Hospitality Mgt.

Victory School of Beauty & Hospitality Management based in Nateete Kampala with a branch in Nabweru, held its 5th graduation where over 180 students graduated with certificates and diplomas in different vocational skills courses.

The ceremony which was graced by different government ministers, officials, and parents, among others was held on Friday 23rd February 2024 at St. Lawrence University.

During the graduation, The Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni in a message delivered by the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Monica Musenero highlighted the need to support the young generation who are undertaking vocational education and training to minimize the youth unemployment in Uganda.

“We need to support the youth who have not been able to pursue the main formal education. We must all support the young generation who take advantage of vocational education and training” she said

The Minister said that the government is currently embarking on youth development programs to take advantage of the demographic dividend that is characterized by over 78& of the population below 35 years of age.

“One of the issues Uganda is facing is youth unemployment, government is currently working on youth development programs. Uganda has the youngest population in the world” she said.

The Managing Director ofictory School of Beauty & Hospitality Management, who is also the President of World Skilling Africa, Mr. Robert Kasibante said that the institute graduated over 180 who completed their courses in different vocational training and made them ready to perform their work after the training while applauding the agencies that came with the new curriculum towards vocational education.

“180 students graduated in different courses. We have educated them very well and they will perform their work very well” he said.

The Director said that in a bid to uplift the education standards and grow the country, there is a need to focus investments on vocational skilling from the early stages of the student’s education to achieve the desired development goals.

In an interview with the Director, Victory School of Beauty & Hospitality Management recently, he revealed that there is a need to change the mindset of Ugandans on skilling for wealth creation through sensitization of the community.

“I have traversed different countries, and the main challenge to address among the people is the mindset change towards vocational skilling. Over time, I have trained over 160,000 through our institute who completed with various certificates according to the course undertaken” he said

He added that through negotiations with the government, there was an introduction of agencies that embarked on a competency-based assessment of higher institutions of learning.

Victory School of Beauty & Hospitality Management according to the Director admits students based on what the student competency desires to learn, including those who completed P.7, S.4 and S.6 into different courses like cosmetology, catering, and hotel management, agriculture and farming, tailoring and fashion design, function decoration and events management, welding and fabrication among others.

The minister for Education in Buganda Kingdom as well the former Vice President of Uganda while applauding the manaeging of the institute said "The world is changing, one must be armed today with the knowledge and technology. Thank you for setting up the institute as an example" 

Meanwhile in her remarks, the Minister for East Africa Affairs, and former Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga sais that the output from Victory school of beauty and hospiality manageent are well set to trasform their lives and the community through creating jobs opportunities.

"Each of the young people from here are going to employ themselves or employ others. If one of them opens ups a saloon tomorrow she will emply other workers needed in the saloon" she said
