Buldak Noodles: A Spicy Delight

The craze about this spicy Korean delicacy has been irresistible ever since. With its blazing taste and irresistibility, it stormed the internet. Therefore, what is so unique about Buldak Noodles and why have they become a domestic staple globally?

Buldak Noodles

Samyang Foods, which is a South Korean food company introduced buldak noodles in 2012. In Korean language, buldak literally means fire chicken because these noodles are hot and savory at the same time. The reason for this particular dish was that there was an alarming increase in demand of hot foods in Korea; hence, it became popular among both locals and foreigners.

The Flavor Profile

What then constitutes the spiciness of Buldak Noodles? The sauce is the secret behind it because it consists of gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes) and gochujang (Korean chili paste). Through these elements, the heat that defines them comes from them. This heat is measured as 4,404 Scoville Units which surpasses that brought by jalapeno peppers.

However, Buldak Noodles is not only famous for its fiery heat due to a variety of reasons. Moreover, this sauce has been prepared with a rich and delicious taste in both sugary and umami flavors. This is done by adding elements such as garlic, onions and sesame oil that add intricacy to the meal.
