Uganda Prisons Authority has clarified on recent reports that indicated that Luzira Prison had a Covid19 infection rate of up to 77%, which quickly sparked public concern.

In a statement issued on 31st Dec 2021 it indicated that the numbers which appeared in the media had mistakes and were not meant for the public.

“On Tuesday 28th December 2021, social media was circulated with inaccurate information about the Covid-19 status quo at Luzira Complex,” it partly reads

The memo according to the statement had a typing error about percentage levels of 77% active cases instead of 7.7% of tested samples of the previous day and was not meant for the public.

It further cmclarified that Uganda Prisons Service as a whole had 22 active cases of prisoners and 05 active cases of staff.

UPS therefore asked the Public to disregard the false circulating internal memo.

Meanwhile on 27th Dec 2021 Uganda Prisons Services conducted a customer care and public relations training to officers in charge of medical care and social works for the North West Region in Arua City.

The RPC North West Region Henry Natwaluma applauded Uganda Prisons Services for extending the training in the region.

Trainees were from the districts of Arua, Moyo, Paidha, Kiboko among others.
