Following the successful East Africa Pharmaceutical Pharmatec Expo that was held in 2022, the 2nd edition of the Uganda medical and healthcare international exhibition that has been set for on 16th to 18th February 2023 is expected to attract over 120 companies from 8 countries.

The 2023 exhibition is jointly organized by the Uganda Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda and The Exhibitions & Trade Services India Pvt Ltd (ETSIPL) with support from the National Drug Authority, Ministry of Health, Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) and other partners scheduled to take place at the UMA Multi-purpose Hall

The 3-day international expo according to the organizers seeks to showcase the latest advancements of the medical sector by having 120+ companies from 8 countries exhibit their innovations.

The Business Director at UMA Mubaraka Kirunda said during a press briefing that the exhibition will bring together international, regional, and national players in different fields of the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry to showcase the latest products, technologies and innovations with a touch of business to business, business to consumer engagement for network building.

“We are having 120 exhibitors 80 from outside the country and 40 from Uganda. It’s going to be bigger that the show of last year” he said

The theme of the expo is: “Unleashing the untapped potential of the pharma, medical, and healthcare sectors in Uganda” he said

Kirunda said that the theme of the expo rhymes with Uganda’s growing pharma, medical and healthcare sectors addressing tomorrow’s challenges through deliberate investment in technology innovations.

He said the expo will create a platform where local and international communities meet to identify innovative ways of doing business through bridging gaps, managing policy and legal frameworks, and building innovative systems among others

Dr. Lukwago Muhammed from National Drug Authority said that as an agency that ensures the quality, and safety of medicine and healthcare products through regulation, they are more than happy to partner with the 2nd Uganda Pharma Healthcare Expo which he said is an opportunity to interact with stakeholder in the sector and an opportunity for local industries to showcase their products.

“The expo is an opportunity to interact with stakeholders in the drug supply chain and an opportunity to showcase the growth of the sector,” he said

Dr Muhammed said that over the years there is tremendous growth in local products ranging from herbal medicine, vaccines, and medical devices among others. He added that as an authority, local industries have preferential treatment in a bid to promote their growth.

Vijayanka Brighuvanshi from Exhibition and Trade Services India Private said their company which started supporting the health and medical sector of Uganda in 2020 has partnered with the expo to explore more opportunities.

He added that the entrance which is free will be coupled with medical services during the expo.

“We started in 2020 to support the health and medical sector in Uganda to tap opportunities. At the expo we have an opportunity to collaborate and network.” he said
