 Following the interruption in the water supply on Saturday due to emergency works at the Ggaba power station on Saturday, National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) restored the water supply in Greater Kampala.

The waterworks according to the statement  were completed on Sunday 9th July 2023,

"Subsequently, water production and supply resumed. We humbly request your patience as pressure gradually builds up in the network to serve you," the statement partly reads.

On Friday NWSC in a statement said that there would be interruptions in water supply on Saturday, July 8, 2023, from 8:00am to 7:00pm.

"This is due to a planned power shutdown by Umeme, to handle system upgrade works. The works are designed to improve power reliability at Ggaba power station. Subsequently, water supply to the entire Kampala Water Supply Service Area will be affected during this downtime” it said

Meanwhile, Kampala Water’s Eastern Zone has embarked on an ambitious journey to maintain its position as a top-performing region. Through the “Sell it All” campaign, the team aims to improve sales, reduce arrears, and minimize Non-Revenue Water.

With a collaborative approach, targeted strategies, and a focus on effective communication, the team is poised for success in the new financial year.

“By embracing this drive and delivering on their goals, they will undoubtedly secure a bright future for Kampala Water’s Eastern zone” NWSC said

According to Senior Manager Ms. Sarah Namuwenge the drive’s objective to a monthly Business turnover of 10Bn before the end of FY 2021/2022.

She said that such strategies were needed both at the individual and zonal levels. This led her to task Branches/Individuals to consolidate their action plans into NWSC’S Corporate Plan. She spoke about the NWSC 5 Golden Indicator Strategy as highlighted in the NWSC Corporate Plan; Growing connections from 800,000 to 1.8m, growing asset base to minimum of 5trillion from the current 3 trillion, Reduction of NRW to 33%, Customer Satisfaction Index to move from 87% to 90% and lastly, to obtain a Staff Engagement index of 70%.

the Acting General Manager of Kampala Water, Dr. Nicholas Mwebaze, commended the team for their achievements in the previous year and urged them to maintain their momentum.

Dr. Mwebaze expressed concern about the rising number of suppressed accounts and tasked the team with revitalizing customer connections. He emphasized the need to bring back customers each month to address financial indiscipline and mitigate losses. To incentivize success, management plans to reward territories that excel in wooing customers back onto the supply. Additionally, the region’s target for the current financial year has been revised to 32 billion, highlighting the need to acknowledge and address challenges collectively.
