NWSC & Education Ministry in Partnership to develop a UGX 300 Million Modern Sewer line project on Kyambogo Hill to enhance sanitation
The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, are developing a sewer line water project on Kyambogo Hill.
The initiative aims to improve water distribution for institutions like the Inter-University Council and the National Council for Higher Education.
The project according to NWSC is expected to be completed in two months and will be equipped with pipes supplied by National Water.
This collaboration aims to establish a sustainable sewerage system for the new Ministry of Education Complex and its associated institutions, enhancing sanitation and environmental management in the area.
The Executive Director of National Water and Sewerage Corporation, Dr. Engineer Silver Mugisha emphasized the importance of the project highlighting the need to replace temporary septic tanks with a reliable sewage infrastructure.
“This system prepares Kyambogo Hill for sustainable urban growth while safeguarding the environment. One of the challenges we have as a nation is disposal of waste and so having this Sewer Line is on these very important buildings where the Ministry of Education and Sports will have its complex under construction at the moment is very important,” he said.
Dr Mugisha stressed that proper sanitation facilities are essential for managing waste in this growing educational Hub adding that the project is estimated to cost approximately 300 million Shillings and will involve installing lines and connecting them.
This modern sewer system according to engineers will connect directly to Kampala’s public sewer grid, setting a standard for environmentally friendly urban development.
