As the influx of refugees fleeing from DRC continues to increase into Uganda’s borders, the demand for essential needs has also increased too. This has prompted National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) to join a multisectoral task force to aid them.

Over 11,000 refugees entered Uganda as of 3rd April 2022, fleeing escalating violence in North Kivu’s Rutshuru Territory in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). National Water and Sewerage Corporation’s Kisoro have teamed up to serve the refugee population.

The multi-institutional task force comprising National and Local Government agencies and the international Humanitarian Organisations have come together to cater to the DRC refugees at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and OPM managed Refugee Transit Centre in Nyakabande

The NWSC Kisoro team has upgraded the connection point from Saddle to 50x40x50 tee off and the Water Meter to DN32. The team is also making an interconnection from a DN75 main that is 200m away to boost the pressure.

As they strive to serve those in need during this unfortunate time of their lives, the NWSC Kisoro team is just as glad to be part of this extraordinary drive to save as many lives as possible.

Meanwhile recently NWSC and NHCC (National Housing And Construction Company) today signed an MOU to provide a framework that will enable the sustainable provision of water and sewerage services to and within National Housing Construction Company Limited housing estates.

During the 10-year term of this MOU, NWSC and NHCC will cooperate and work together to explore opportunities to deliver Water and Sewerage Services in the identified existing and upcoming NHCC Estates.

Under the terms of the partnership, NHCC shall always make available to NWSC land upon which sewerage infrastructure shall be located. Going forward, NHCC will share the project master plan, building plans, and the intended general Water and Sewerage infrastructure layout with NWSC for purposes of guidance on propriety, approval, and quality check prior to project implementation.

Speaking at the signing pictured above, the MD-NWSC- Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha noted that NWSC together with NHCC has been engaging in very many undertakings and the formalization of the partnerships was long overdue. He was also keen to highlight that despite the many pandemic-induced complications, NWSC continues to focus on its WATER FOR ALL mantra and holds the end-user in high regard.

‘We pledge our continued support to NHCC and we hope to support all interventions as long as they grant our customers reliable water and sewerage services,’ Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha said. He also thanked the General Manager of Kampala Water, Eng. Mahmoud Lutaaya for initiating the partnership discussions.

The CEO of NHCC, Eng. Kenneth Kaijuka, NHCC applauded the support NWSC was providing to them, especially during the construction of various housing units.
