New IUEA Chancellor Dr. Amina ready to uplift the institution, prepare students for the demands of the 21st century.
The International University of East Africa (IUEA) Kansanga, Kampala has officially installed the second Chancellor of the University, Dr. Amina Chawahir Mohamed following the death of the former Chancellor Prof. Emmanuel Mutebile which marks a new era for the university with a wealth of experience in diplomacy, law, environmental conservation among other fields in Africa and the globe.
The installation ceremony that took place on 15 February at the University Auditorium attracted various dignitaries from the academic, political, and corporate worlds, including the Kenyan High Commissioner to Uganda, Maj Gen (Rtd) George A, the Chief Justice, and Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, the chairperson of the board of trustees for the university among others.
On the same occasion, IUEA launched the Scholarship Fund to support the institution’s scholarship program that focuses on giving a hand to students who will be awarded from various categories through external partnerships. IUEA has granted over 1000 scholarships.
The categories under the scholarship program include: Scholars, Sports, Disadvantages/vulnerable and IUEA staff.
In her inaugural speech after the installation, the new Chancellor in above oicture vowed to make the university the 'University of Choice' in Africa, uplifting the institution, and preparing the students for the demands and challenges of the current and future generation.
She said that her leadership at IUEA will inspire a new generation of young African leaders to pursue excellence, innovation, and progress in their own fields
“Am committed to serving the university’s high standards to bring out the next generation of professionals that the world requires through result-oriented leadership. For the continent to help deal with its problems, it is universities to help teach young men and women who can solve real-world problems” she said
She added that "To the students, today and tomorrow belong to you. I will do my best to make sure you are equipped with the tools that will magnify and amplify your chances of success in life. With the fourth industrial revolution underway, am committed to ensure IUEA stays at the forefront of innovation”
She said that the values that IUEA's emphases on practical education and skills development propelled her to accept the offer of being Chancellor which she added reflects her belief in the importance of creating opportunities for young people to succeed.
The IUEA Vice Chancellor, Prof. Emeka Akaezuwa above said the university has for many years led in innovation and coming up with solutions that impact the community adding that Dr Amina is the best choice for the university leadership.
“As IUEA, we are known for excellence and innovation. We are a university where we encourage skills and people to have a vision of contributing to science, business, education and prosperity of the continent by encouraging and empowering our students to think big” he said
The Chairperson of the Board of Trustees at IUEA and Chief Justice, Alfonse Owiny- Dollo, tasked the new chancellor to drive the institution to greater heights while pledging total support from the board.
He welcomed the chancellor and emphasized that they have hope and believe in her experience which will help students get better-deserved education that march the current technology.
“Our expectations of her are correspondingly high as we expect her to move the university into a new era and prepare our students for new pertinent demands in the 21st century. We are confident that the new chancellor will come up with new ideas so as to achieve our goal of being the university of technological choice for Africa,” he said
