MakSPH applauds Rockefeller Foundation for UGX 373.4 Million donation towards the new building
Makerere University’s new School of Public Health (MakSPH) has commended The Rockefeller Foundation, a private American philanthropy, for the $100,000 donation towards the construction of Makerere University’s new School of Public Health (MakSPH) building, which building according to Professors at the public health school, will accommodate a center for response research, disease outbreak prevention, and preparedness.
The donation by The Rockefeller Foundation, a US-based philanthropic organization, was announced by The Vice President of the Rockefeller Foundation William Asiko during a to the school’s construction site
“As a foundation, we are excited to re-engage with Makerere University and the School of Public Health. To that end, we are incredibly proud of the strides the School of Public Health has made since its inception. We look forward to continued collaboration with the school and the university at large,” he said.
The new building according to the Dean of MakSPH Dr. Rhoda Wanyenze will provide much-needed space for public health training and research, particularly in infectious disease outbreaks of epidemic and pandemic potential and will help in the growth of public health in Uganda, and Africa
“Given its location within a region prone to infectious disease outbreaks of epidemic and pandemic potential, this building will accommodate a center for disease outbreak prevention, preparedness, and response research in addition to other centers of excellence. We are extremely grateful to the Rockefeller Foundation for their generosity. Your past financial support has been invaluable to the growth of public health in Uganda, in Africa and globally,” she said
The new is expected to cost about $10 million after completion.
Founded in 1954 as a Department of Preventive Medicine, under the Faculty of Medicine, Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) is a health institution in Uganda with a vision is to be a center of excellence in providing leadership in public health It was upgraded to the School of Public Health in 2007.
