Following various court orders that have been logged in the courts evicting residents in Kagadi district, the Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Planning, Judith Nabakooba has intervened to save the people against evictions out of their land.

Deputy RDC, Kagadi, Benjamin Tumusiime said there were over 4 court orders in his offices evicting residents, which Minister Nabakooba asked the RDC not to implement.

Lands Minister while presiding over the Women’s Day celebrations in Kagadi District held at Mabaale playground in Mabaale Town Council Kagadi District assured residents in Kagadi districts that no bibanja landholders will be evicted by agents of absentee landlords.

The theme of the day was: “Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality’.

“The government has established systematic land demarcation and has compensated all landlords to ensure that Ugandans can settle on land permanently,”  she said

She said that the lands ministry is working hard to ensure that all Bibanja holders in Kagadi are supported to acquire full ownership of their land by getting land titles.

“Over 1,600 land titles will be handed over to the locals in the coming month of May” she said

The Minister condemned land fragmentation and urged families to work together, engage in modern agriculture and share profits.

“Embrace the four-acre model and intensive farming as guided by President Yoweri Museveni. This model works well even when one has a small piece of land, especially in urban settings. It is closely linked to urban farming and the Parish Development Model,” she said.

Hon. Janepher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi, the Kagadi Woman Member of Parliament explained to the minister that for some time, they (local leaders) have been making several attempts to end the eviction threats in the district.

She asked the minister to expedite the process of issuing land titles so that people can work for prosperity without fear of being evicted.

While in Mityana resolving similar land disputes, The Minister warned village leaders who are colliding with the rich who are evicting people from their land, urging the residents to stop treachery, insults, and unwillingness to work together to fight land grabbing.

“You asked people for votes saying I will be there for them and now why are you leaving them by evicting them? please let's get together Let's stand up for the common man” she said

Nabakooba in the Mityana district rescued residents who were about to be evicted from their land in Nkwale, Kabule, Migo, And Ssetta villages where she suspended all activities on the land until the investigation is completed.
