How Mukesh visit to Hotel Diplomat sets new ground for ownership battle. Govt, AG could lose 20 Billion to Shumuk

When Mukesh Shukla paid a courtesy visit to Hotel Diplomat, there was a security situation according hotel Katatumba camp however Mukesh according to agreements in 2008 belongs to him. He adds that  there is no law that prohibits people from accessing public places.

The visit and the attempted arrest of the businessman has caused public concern including Lawyers, the business community in Kampala and abroad on how the situation should not be taken for what it is but take keen interest in the motive of the visit to the hospital which according to reliable sources say could means a new twist in the legal battle for the ownership and it’s implications could cause a bigger lose on the side of government and the Attorney General following the aftermath of new motive creation from Mukesh camp.  


According to a Galiwango Kanakulya a commercial lawyer, he says that following the series of legal arguments that have been aired since 2018, the issues that came in the public eye including personal liabilities of Katatumba lawyer and his long time girl friend lacks credibility to handle the case, in addition to fake arrests, threats among others  could cause a big loss off up to UGX20 Billion in damages to government  towards Shumuk.


“This is a malicious procecution.  The counsel faces personal liabilities, if  lawyer Turinawe and girl friend angella katatumba could be exposed, group malicious threats, fake arrests of director and staff  effected, could cost government of Uganda, Attorney General 20billion to shumuk” he said.


When  Businessman Mukesh visited the hotel, on orders of Angella Katatumba  was arrested by Police claiming  trespassing at Hotel Diplomate.
The  city businessman Mukesh Mukesh  Shukla, is the owner of Shumuk Aluminium Industries.

The threat caused by his visit was taken as an open insult and plot to occupy the hotel, but for city businessmen say that the  Shumuk they know has covert motive that won’t be  seen now until the right time. 


“Though am the rightful owner of the hotel, this time I had gone to take a drink with my colleagues” Mukesh told police
Mukesh supposedly bought the hotel from the late Bonny Katatumba in 2008.

Since the, the property has been under contestation, sinc 2018 when the tycoon of Pakistani origin was arrested for forging documents for the take over of the hotel.
Mukesh according to documents acessed by this website bought Hotel Diplomate from the late Katatumba in 2008 at $630,000.
Court documents indicate that he paid cash $110,000 to Mr Katatumba and the balance of $520,000 was to be paid to Katatumba’s creditors in respect of Blacklines House on Colville Street, Kampala.
However in a new twist in 2018, Shumuk was arrested when it emerged that he had forged signatures on the alleged official handover documents of Hotel Diplomate.

He was charged for alleged forge of signatures of  Bonny Katatumba, and his children namely, Anne Grace Katatumba, Angella Katatumba, Rugirwa Katatumba, Ian Katatumba, as well as ASP George William Karyegira, the officer in charge of the Chief Justice’s security
