Graduates tasked with spearheading environmental awareness as over 400 finish studies at IUEA
Over 400 graduates have completed their studies at The International University of East Africa (IUEA) with 21 in first class in various disciplines including science, technology, business programs among others at its 9th graduation ceremony.
Graduates have been tasked with championing the campaign for environmental awareness in the country.
The Chief Guest, Milly Babalanda, Minister for the presidency, was represented by Paul Waakothe, the vice chancellor of Busitema University, at the 9th graduation ceremony of the International University of East Africa (IUEA) on Thursday in Kansanga.
Babalanda said Uganda’s environment was depreciating and it only needed the efforts of the already civilized citizens.
The theme of the graduation was: “Education for climate action”
Babalanda noted that education enhances people with knowledge to control global warming and find more solutions to the same cause.
“Graduation is done go out and inform everyone about the dangers of destroying the environment, most people in remote areas lack credible information, and it's you to educate them,” she said.

Prof. Emeka Akaezuwa, the VC IUEA said climate change innovations are costly and government should support universities to private universities that have engaged in the production of scientific innovations.
“We are ready for the challenge by introducing new technologies related to transportation and farming, electric cars and motorcycles which will reduce the number of emissions. However, they are costly in terms of production and we need government support to produce more,” he said.
The best performer Mohamed Hassan Ahmed, who graduated with a master’s degree in business administration and the overall best performer with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.87 said this milestone would help him to change the image of his entire country by advocating peaceful negotiations with different political leaders and attracting foreign investors into the country.
He said Uganda is a peaceful country, which has helped him to concentrate and perform better. Ahmed noted that, economically, Somalia has lagged because of the endless civil wars.
According to Ahmed, this would be an opportunity for him to return home and introduce new ideas he has picked that could similarly work for Somalia and play a significant role in the country’s transformation.
"This is now my chance to go back home and introduce new ideas to my fellow countrymen and women. I want Somalia to be stable like Uganda," he said.
Ahmed stated that because of the skills and knowledge he already has, this could be a chance for Somalia to fully engage in all activities of the east African communities since he understands better the terms of international trade.
