Experts call for investment in technology, and innovation to minimize the impact of security problems in Africa

Various experts in various fields including environment, defense, agriculture, security among others that convened to discuss how global security is affecting Africa, concluded that security does not only involve the absence of war but includes other aspects including human security in health, climate change, food security among others.

The experts agreed that in order to mitigate the impact of evolving global security, there is a need to harness a concerted effort involving different players in the different fields to reduce human security.

During a dialogue on the evolving global security and its impact on Africa organized by The Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment (ACODE) at Protes hotel on 22nd March 2022, The ACODE Executive Director Dr. Arthur Bainomugisha in picture above said that the overall objective of the dialogue was to facilitate a conversation to analyze global socioeconomic, political, and security challenges and their implications for Africa.

He said that “the aim is to promote open and candid discussion on evolving global security challenges and implications for Africa which will inform policymaking and policy responses at local and regional levels”.

The dialogue brought together key stakeholders, including Security Agencies academia, Members of Parliament, the African Union, African Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Development Partners among others.

The Chief Guest at the dialogue, The Minister for Security, Hon. Jim Muhwezi, in his opening remarks, said issues of security include war security, food security, water security, environment, and others.

“Global security goes beyond war, it involves all perspectives of food security, water security, and the environment,” he said

The Key note speaker, Dr. Joseph Shevel, in above picture, President- Galilee Internationally Management Institute highlighted the need to double agriculture production through training farmers on modern technologies involved in commercial farming and emphasis re-using of water to maximize its use in production, industry, and farming.

While giving global examples of conflict resolution, Dr Joseph said that there is a need to prepare for disasters in order to reduce on their impact of it.
