DIT certifies 275 in vocational skills of 1st cohort in Entebbe municipality

The Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) part of the Ministry of Education and Sports has certified over 275 graduates in the first cohort within Entebbe municipality.

The certification according to DIT followed an assessment exercise conducted for various vacation occupations including Agriculture, Art and Design, and Performing artists, among other categories.

During the certification exercise of the graduates held on Tuesday 23rd August 2022 in Entebbe, Kiwafu playgroud, The Minister of State for Education and Sports, in Charge of Primary education, Hon Joyce M. Kaducu  told the graduates that the role of vocational training needs to be identified through them in various occupations skills they have acquired during the training, through demonstrating innovation and adding value.

“These certificates you have received are a basis for innovation for better lives and community. People will look at you to see the difference you make in communities of added value” she said

She cautioned them not to uphold moral values and make proud of the parents, and the communities away from involving in reckless activities like drugs, alcoholism, among others.

The Minister said that investment in human capital development as a top priority of the government is aimed at transforming society through skilling in competency-based education.

The Director DIT Patrick Byakatonda said that the DIT with support from the ministry has made it possible for the rolling out of vocational assessments and certification which he said is converting the students from informal to formal skills capable of competing equitably with other graduates.

“At the level I, a DIT Driver can get a job elsewhere, at level II it equals to S.6, and its recognized internationally in the labour market and education system” he said

The Director urged the district to have the records of the skilled graduates to make it easier for upgrading and other benefits.

Rogers Mulindwa, The Ambassador of the DIT program in picture above said that there is a need to continue popularising the youth to be assessed by DIT to get certified. He said that out of the 309 who expressed interest in being assessed, 275 passed the module assessment for certification.

“275 young people have received certification after being assessed by DIT. Popularise DIT to the public and attract the young people to be assessed and awarded certificates” he said

The graduate class comprised of 60 in motor vehicle and motro cycle mechanics, 30 Beauticians, 30 Brick Bricklaying, 24 cooks, 16 shoes makers, 13 mushroom farmers among others.
