DECADE CELEBRATION: UBTEB to erect new complex, hold TVET assessment conference

As the celebration to mark 10 years of existence in Uganda, Uganda Business and Technical Examination Board (UBTEB) a corporate national professional examinations board with the mandate to streamline, regulate and coordinate examinations and awards in the Business and Technical profession in Uganda, is set to establish a new complex as a new assessment center in Kyambogo whose groundbreaking ceremony will be held on 23rd march 2022.

UBTE will also hold an assessment conference Themed: “Competitive based assessment and competitive labor force and development”

The Board is set to celebrate 10 years of existence on the 23rd March 2022 at Hotel Africana. UBTEB was established by Statutory Instrument No.9, 2009 following the Enactment of the BTVET Act 2008.

The celebrations shall include conferences as part of the events under the theme “Competence-Based Assessment for the competitive labor force and economic development “on 23rd March 2022.

H.E The President of Uganda will be the Chief Guest on both occasions.

UBTEB Board Chairman Dr. Eng Silver Mugisha has handed over the NOV/DEC 2019 Technical National Certificate And Business Programmes Examinations Results.

During the press briefing held on 21st March 2022 a Media Centre, the Executive Secretary Onesimas Oweyesigyire said that since launch of the celebration November last year, this is going to be the climax of UBTEB’s 10-year celebration which he said will be marked by 3 main events including a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Nansaga Primary school in Bugiri district, a conference, an expo, and a groundbreaking ceremony.

“Among the key events of marking 10 years of existence, the Board shall carry out CSR at a primary school in Bugiri district. There shall also be groundbreaking of UBTEB Assessment Centre by H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, The President of the Republic of Uganda at Kyambogo Hill, Kampala’ he said.

Onesimus said that as part of implementing TVET Policy 2019 reforms, UBTEB has rolled out modular assessment syllabi for TVET programs with various engagements made with key stakeholders including the principals of Uganda Community Polytechnics and Technical and Vocational institutions, representative of UGAPRIVI, the world of work and officials from the TVET Operations and Management Department.

According to the NDP III, TVET delivery and assessment should be modularized. To address competencies, flexibility in learning, and employability as the main emphases in the modularized TVET assessment syllabi by UBTEB. He encouraged Heads of centers to implement the modularized assessment guidelines with effect from the academic year of 2021/2022.

In the 10 years of existence, according to the Executive Secretary, UBTEB has registered major milestones in TVET assessment such as increased enrollment of TVET assessments from 9,198 candidates in 2011 to 79,901 in 2021. The Board’s cadre output to date stands at 104,804 artisans and technicians working across the globe.

UBTEB Board is Chaired by Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha, who is also the MD National Water and Sewerage Corperation. he was appointed by the Minister of Education and Sports, Ms Janet Museveni, for a period of three years, leading a team of 15 Board members in line with the Statutory Instrument 2009 No.9 that established UBTEB. he took over from Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba  inaugurated on Tuesday, 3rd September 2019 at UBTEB Secretariat.
