Youth Football: Sokolo Soccer Academy wins 2025 Dave Hodgson U-13 tourney in Katanga

2025 Dave Hodgson Football U-13 Tournament:

• Winner: Sokolo Soccer Academy (Kawempe)

• Runners up: Namungoona Soccer Academy

The future of sports world-wide is firmly embedded along with solid youth structures.

Such structures have strong pillars of able passionate knowledgeable leaders who can always design affluent programs for the upcoming youngsters.

For a decade now, Everton Uganda football academy has had programs that bring together other academies in a smart and healthy competitive manner.

This year round, Everton Uganda football academy organized the famous Dave Hodgson U-13 tournament at the Katanga Kimanyi playground in the famous slum overlooking Mulago national referral hospital, Kampala.

This championship was embedded along the theme-line “Changing lives through compassion and generosity”.

The youngsters showcased their full potentiality embracing the key life values of humility, love, kindness, diligence, teamwork and fair-play spirit in an environment surrounded by the Katanga gutters and ram-shackled housing units.

Special basic football skills as the sublime ball control, ball passing (short and diagonal passes), dribbling, take-ons, heading and shooting to find the back of the net were duly served, and in abundance.

Kawempe division based Sokolo Soccer Academy emerged victorious after out-smarting Namungoona in the epic finale to take home the coveted prize, a glittering trophy that was accompanied by gold medals.

Namungoona soccer academy earned silver and there were prizes for the individual top performers as the top scorer, best goalkeeper and most valuable player.

A total of 16 teams took part in the day-long championship that was played on 7-aside format.

Organizers Everton Uganda were pooled in group A alongside Universal Soccer Academy, Skills Namasuba and Makerere United Soccer Academy.

Group B had Super Heroes United Soccer Academy, Kampala Galaxy, Central Soccer Academy and Katanga United Soccer Academy.

In group C; Namungoona Soccer Academy was pooled with Emazon Primary School, Highess and the champions Sokolo Soccer Academy from Kawempe.

Sparta 09, City Stars, MYSA and Hot Bullet were all grouped in group D.

Everton Uganda founder Ali Ssekunda, the key brain behind this entire arrangement is particularily humbled by the response from the young players, parents, team managers and coaches, the overwhelming support from the Dave Hodgson family, team effort from the different academies in Kampala, the organizing team, media and every stakeholder directly and indirectly involved.

Organizing such a successful tournament is no mean feat. I am glad for the collective effort right from the young players, their parents and managers, coaches, the local communities. In the same vein, It is befitting to thank the Dave Hodgson family, the organizing committee and everybody involved. I am pleased. The tournament helped to provide a platform for the young players to showcase their abilities as scouts and coaches had a unique opportunity to look at these special talents.
