Yasin Nasser in two-fold celebration after maiden Safari Rally finish

Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba have added a major milestone to their rally career after clinching their first WRC Safari Rally Kenya finish on their third attempt.
The previous two attempts ended miserably for the crew with an engine knock in 2021 and a heavy roll in 2024 seeing the Uganda team failing to complete the prestigious rally.
The crew almost had a repeat of the previous year when they broke the front left arm on Friday morning temporarily retiring from the event.
Yasin however restarted under the super rally rule to continue the hunt for the Safari rally finish.
A 2-minute time penalty for using extra tyres did not dampen any spirits as the team persisted in completing the rally in a respectable 18th place overall and 3rd in the African rally championship category.
“Finally, we have made it. This is so satisfying. The whole team’s efforts have paid off,” said excited Yasin.
The joy was equally the same for co-driver Katumba.
“It is true, we have never reached this far on a WRC event. And now that we are closer to finishing, we are going to be more cautious not to lose it.
Since this could be our last Safari rally. We cannot afford to miss this finish,” said Katumba.
“At least we can forget about our past with this finish. We have had a great experience. Now we know how it feels finishing an event of over a total distance 1000km throughout the week,” he added.
Nasser is optimistic the collection of points for the African category will spark some energy for the full championship chase.
“This finish gave us some good points to start our fight for ARC title. A title we love to win before we can call it quits,” he said.
Kenya’s Carl Tundo won the Africa rally championship followed by countryman Jeremiah Wahome.
