Why the 12th PSL title is special for Denis Onyango

That Denis Masinde Onyango is the most successful player in the history of the South Africa Premier Soccer League is factual.

The former Uganda Cranes captain claimed his 12th league medal with Mamelodi Sundowns after winning the 2024/25 season.

Onyango feels this title special as it completes a full year in regards to the numbers he has won.

“Another medal in the bag,” he posted on X, former Twitter.

“This one is special. Why? Because it completes the year [from January to December] that 12 league titles; every month had its own trophy. So, this was special for me,” he added.

The 40-year-old custodian will shift attention to the CAF Champions League final where they face Egypt’s Pyramids next weekend.

Later, he will then hope for a better showing at the expanded FIFA Club World Cup in United States of America where Sundowns will be amongst the four teams to represent Africa.

Onyango has over 20 medals with SC Villa, SuperSport United and Sundowns including the 2016 CAF Champions League.

He was ranked the 10th goalkeeper in World football in 2016 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics and named in the African Team of the Year in 2016 and 2018.
