Waiswa contemplating Cranes retirement

Supersport United midfielder Moses Waiswa has come out to reveal that his time with the Uganda Cranes is quickly nearing the end.

The silky attacking midfield maestro revealed that he has a lot going on that might force him to retire from international football.

Waiswa wasn’t part of Cranes head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic from the squad that is preparing for the 2023 Ivory Coast Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Algeria and Niger.

He highlighted that he was never in the wildest of dreams surprised by the tactician’s decision to leave him out, as he saw it coming.

“I can’t say I am happy that I’m not with the team, but at the same time, I’m not shocked at all,” revealed Waiswa to Football256 in an interview on Tuesday.

“The coach wants people to play a certain way and I’m not that type. I wasn’t entirely happy with the defensive approach in the previous matches, so, I expected the coach’s decision.”

“I’m not angry with him (coach), because that is his decision as he wants his team to play a certain way. I wish them the very best,” he added.

Pressed further on whether he is nearing hanging his national team boots, Waiswa did not shy from the affirmative.

“We have done our part, and maybe, it’s time to have others takeover from us, and I only wish them good luck,” Waiswa concluded.

The 25 year old former Vipers SC has so far played 22 FIFA recognized matches with the Cranes, dating back to 2017.

Waiswa was a key pillar in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, before the final tournament in Egypt due to injury.

At Supersport in the 2021/22 season, he has featured 14 times in the league, helping the Matsatsantsa to eighth on the 16 team log.

They play Orlando Pirates on May 30, in what will be their final game this campaign.
