Victoria Pearls hold off Tanzania to remain unbeaten at Kwibuka Tournament

Game 6: Uganda W v Tanzania W
- Uganda 99/6
- Tanzania 79 all out
- Uganda won by 20 runs
Victoria Pearls survived one of the biggest tests at the Kwibuka Tournament, defeating their fellow East Africans, Tanzania, by 20 runs.
Tanzania won the toss and elected to bowl first, but the opening pair of Janet Mbabazi (39) and Esther Iloku (12) put on an opening stand of 53 to set the tone for Uganda.
However, a great passage of play from Tanzania helped them wrestle back the advantage, reducing Uganda from 53/1 to 76/5 inside 15 overs. Kevin Awino (12) and Proscovia Alako (11) had some contributions at the back end to support the run scoring.
In the chase, Tanzania was out of its usual element, which played to the advantage of Uganda as the run rate kept creeping up on them.
The inform Justine Neema Pius was the first pick to fall off the bowling of Phiona Khulume as the dot ball frustration got to her.
The wickets were shared by the bowlers Khulume (1/12), Janet Mbabazi (2/17), Tino Sarah (2/17), and Consy Aweko (2/17) to complete a 20-run win for Uganda.
The win was crucial for Uganda against an opponent in the same group for the T20 Global Qualifiers, and it also keeps Uganda at the top of the table and unbeaten.
Uganda will face Nigeria and Rwanda to complete the round-robin stage.
