URU, Tunisia agree to postpone test rugby tour to 2025 mid-year international window

Uganda Rugby Cranes (men) and the Lady Rugby Cranes (women) national teams toured Tunisia for the inaugural bilateral test series in November last year.
The Rugby Cranes won both their test matches (by 20-14 and 28-13 points ) while the Lady Rugby Cranes suffered defeat in theirs (by 27-17 and 53-13 points) at El Menzah National Rugby Stadium in Tunis.
The initial plan was for Tunisia to tour Uganda in October 2024 for the second edition of this bilateral series. However, both countries’ unions have agreed to postpone the tour until sometime next year.
“Following on from our first year of our partnership with Tunisia, this year, Uganda Rugby Union is supposed to host Tunisia men and women for the end-of-year tests but due to a heavy calendar for both countries, we’ve chosen to move these tests to the mid-year window for tests next year,” Uganda Rugby Union (URU) chief executive Isaac Lutwama Nsubuga said to Kawowo Sports on Thursday afternoon.
Lutwama also hinted at the unpredictable and politically charged climate in Tunisia at the moment due to the upcoming presidential elections affecting Tunisia’s preparations.
“We haven’t yet agreed on the dates but these tests are most likely going to be played as trial tests before we go into the Africa Cup in July next year. The men will be here to play those two games. We just need to agree now on the dates for the women as well but they are most likely going to happen next year after both countries have agreed on the dates.”
This means that Uganda has the Elgon Cup as the only confirmed tournament left to play this year. The Elgon Cup will be played on November 2 in Kampala, Uganda and November 9 in Nairobi, Kenya.
