UPL’s best goalkeeper set to represent South Sudan

The 2021/22 StarTimes Uganda Premier League goalkeeper of the season Richard Anyama is training with the South Sudanese U-23 team.

The Ugandan goal-minder has not yet received a national team call-up at any level and looks set to switch nationality.

Many thought his brilliant season at Arua Hill SC would earn him a summoning in the Uganda Cranes’ recent engagements in vain.

Anyama featured in 18 of the 30 games the Leopards played in the UPL last season, and he managed 11 clean-sheets, the most of any other goalkeeper.

South Sudan will take on Tanzania on Friday, September 23 in the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and Anyama could make his debut.

Arua Hill captain Rashid Toha is amongst some of the Ugandan players that have opted to represent South Sudan recently.

The others are Tito Okello, Stephen Dhata, Gibson Adinho, Evans Wani, and Makweth Wol.
