Fortebet Real Stars Awards (March 2024):

  • Badminton: Husinah Kobugabe (1 Gold & 1 Bronze)
  • Football: Hakim Mutebi (1 Silver)
  • Weightlifting: Davis Niyoyita (Silver & 1 Bronze)
  • Rugby: Lydia Namabiro (1 Gold)

Fresh from the 13th African Games in Ghana, four of Uganda medalists were rewarded during the Fortebet Real Stars Monthly Awards for March 2024.

Badminton female player Husinah Kobugabe, Uganda U-20 footballer Hakim Mutebi, weightlifter Davis Niyoyita and Uganda female Rugby 7’s player Lydia Namabiro were all rewarded with beautiful plaques and cash, each worth Ug.Shs 500,000.

Kobugabe scooped a gold medal (alongside playing mate Gladys Mbabazi in the doubles) and bronze from the games; Mutebi earned a silver, Niyoyita got a silver and bronze whilst rugby ace Namabiro earned a gold.

The quartet were just representative of the total 20 medal collections from the different games were Uganda excelled.

Currently in Europe for international meets and special training, Kobugabe was picked ahead of national teammates Gladys Mbabazi and Fadilah Shamika Mohammed.

Mutebi, also a student at sports powerhouse St Mary’s Kitende came top ahead of fellow U-20 player Arafat Kizza Usama and Catherine Naggadya.

“I am honoured for winning this award. I thank my teammates for pushing me and the coaches who believed in me” Mutebi remarked as he picked his plaque and cash at Lazio Restaurant in Kololo on Tuesday, 2nd April 2024.

Niyoyita won the award, beating Lydia Nakidde and Steven Ojedde who also took part in the 13th African Games but did not win any medal.

Kakungulu Memorial School head teacher Hajji Jamil Buwembo received Niyoyita’s plaque on his behalf since the weightlifter is away in Thailand for the world cup.

“I want to thank the organizers for recognizing my student (Davis Niyoyita). This is big motivation to him and an inspiration to many” Hajji Buwembo stated.

Female Rugby star Namabiro shone at the Challenger 7’s in Uruguay as well as the 13th African Games, beating teammate Peace Lekuru and Norbert Okeny.

Namabiro singled out the value of team-work during a rugby match and entire championship, praising her teammates.

“This award is special to me but I owe it to all my teammates. Rugby is purely a team sport and I could not have achieved it all. I am humbled for the award” Namabiro revealed.

Real Stars Sports Agency Executive Director Isaac Mukasa, Jude Colour Solution’s Henry Zzimbe and Fortebet Assistant public relations manager Resty Namugema graced these awards.
