Uganda Premier League: Crucial matches to decide fate of bottom teams

Wednesday April 30, 2025
- Kitara vs Wakiso Giants – Butema 4pm
- Soltilo Bright Stars vs Express – Kavumba 4pm
- Mbale Heroes vs Maroons – Mbale 4pm
- Mbarara City vs NEC – Kakyeeka 4pm
- URA vs SC Villa – Nakivubo 7pm
The StarTimes Uganda Premier League battle could be ‘decided’ on Wednesday.
Bottom of the table Mbale Heroes who have only 10 points will go down if they fail to beat Maroons at Municipal stadium, Mbale.
However, they will also go down if Mbarara City matches their result at home against title chasing NEC at Kakyeeka.
They are 13 points off safety positions and after this match day, there will be only 12 points to fight for meaning that even if they were to win all their remaining games, they would still be in the drop zone.
Meanwhile, Wakiso Giants and Soltilo Bright Stars, on 19 points and 16 points respectively, need to win to enhance minimal survival chances.
The Stars host Express at Kavumba and with 7 points below Mbarara City who occupies the last safe position.
But they will hope and pray that the Ankole Lions also lose to NEC.
The same applies to the Purple Sharks who have a monumental task versus Kitara.
They are chasing a four-point gap and will need victory to close down the Ankole Lions who they face next in the league.
But that match will only make sense if they win and Mbarara City drop points or at worst, just match the Ankole Lions result on Wednesday.
