UCU Lady Cardinals 1-0 She Maroons
Lady Doves FC 1-3 Uganda Martyrs WFC
UCU Lady Cardinals maintained their perfect start to the 2021/22 FUFA Women Super League season after registering their second win in as many games on Saturday.
The University side were 1-0 winners at home in Mukono on Saturday, edging past She Maroons FC in a closely contested game.
Skipper Hasifa Nassuna made the difference, scoring the solitary goal of the game in the 40th minute and this eventually turned out to be the decisive moment of the game.
The goal means she has two to her name, having scored in the opening game away to Olila High School in Soroti last weekend, a game they also won 1-0.
Sandra Kisakye had the first attempt at goal in the 13th minute but Brenda Adongo was well stationed to make a fine save.
The visitors made several inroads but always lacked the calmness infront of goal to make use of the chances created.
The deadlock was broken five minutes to the break when Nassuna combined well to unlock She Maroons defence with the latter firing home just at the edge of the box.
UCU Lady Cardinals nearly doubled their lead at the stroke of half time when Nassuna capitalized on a miscommunication between goalkeeper Adongo and She Maroons captain Justine Najjuko. The defender, however recovered in time to make a goal line clearance.
In the second half, She Maroons stepped up efforts in search for the equalizer but the home side proved resilient enough to hold onto the scoreline.
Victory takes UCU Lady Cardinals to the top of the summit while She Maroons FC remain in 7th place with a point from two games.
In the other game played on Saturday, Lady Doves were defeated at home by visiting Uganda Martyrs WFC in Masindi.
Latifa Nakasi, Catherine Nagadya and Elizabeth Nakigozi got the goals for the Lubaga based side while the consolation for the defending Champions came through captain Riticia Nabbosa.
Action continues on Sunday with three games on card. She Corporate host Kawempe Muslim in Nakawa, Rines WFC are in Soroti to face Olila High School while Tooro Queens take on Kampala Queens in Fort Portal City.
