UBOS Hands Over 5195 tablets to cultural and academic institutions to strengthen the National Statistics System.

Representatives from cultural institutions and selected government-aided universities in Uganda have received tablets totaling 5,195 from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) to support them in research, collecting, and producing data in their respective areas, enabling users to make evidence-based and informed decisions.
Cultural institutions, including Bunyoro Kitara, Buganda Kingdom, Busoga, and Rwenzururu, were among those who received the tablets, while universities included Makerere University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Lira University, Muni University, Kyambogo, Makerere University Business School, Kyambogo Busitema, Soroti University, Kabale University and the National Council for Higher Education.
The tablets were handed over during a ceremony held on Monday, 30th June 2025, at the UBOS headquarters in Kampala.

The Executive Director of UBOS, Dr. Chris Mukiza, while handing over the tablets, said that the extension of the tablets was within UBOS’s mandate to strengthen the national statistics system by integrating the users, producers, suppliers of statistics, the training institutions, and others.
“Strengthening the National Statistics System (NSS), it can’t be complete without the users and training institutions. The National Statistics System deals with the producers, suppliers, users, training institutions, and non-state actors such as the cultural institutions,” he said
He said that UBOS and the Cultural institution are developing a development plan on statistics and that they are having a good working relationship with them, which will culminate in a Memorandum of Understanding.
“We shall have a Memorandum of understanding with the cultural institutions entailing how to use the tablets to strengthen data collection, Training of trainers, data sharing, and encouraging people to use the existing statistics,” he said
The representative of the Cultural Institutions who was the Prime Minister of Bunyoro Kitara. Owekitinisa Andrew Byakutaga, while applauding UBOS for the gesture of donating the tablets, pledged to make good use of the tablets to improve data collection in the Bunyoro region.
The Bunyoro Kitara Prime Minister, who received 550 tablets on behalf of the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, said that the Kingdom is on a high stage to establish a statistics unit to enhance the work of the tablets and ensure they are used for their purpose.
The breakdown of the tablets donations to cultural institutions and universities included the following: Bunyorro Kitara Kingdom received 550 tablets, while Buganda received 1,000, Busoga -500, Makerere University -700, Makerere University School of Business-250, Soroti university -150, Mbarara University of science and Technology-350, Busitema university -200, Lira University-200, Gulu University -200, Kyambogo University -350, Muni University -150 and NCHE-75
