Tournament target still achievable – Coach Sheryl Botes following victory against South Sudan

The Uganda Women’s Football National Team, Crested Cranes, are the reigning champions of the CECAFA Women’s Championship, and their goal in the current tournament is to defend their title.
After a convincing 5-0 victory against South Sudan, Crested Cranes head coach Sheryl Botes expressed confidence that their objective remains attainable.
In the post-match press conference, Botes emphasized the importance of the win in boosting their chances of success. “Today’s win was crucial because it helps us stay in the tournament,” she said.
“We knew we had to score several goals to remain in reach of our target. We analyzed South Sudan’s gameplay and noted their defensive weaknesses, which we aimed to exploit,” she added.
Looking ahead, Botes shifted her focus to the upcoming match against Kenya, describing it as a challenging encounter.
However, she also mentioned that the team’s self-belief would provide a significant boost, as they are responsible for executing the game plan.
Due to a late invitation to the tournament, many teams have not had adequate preparation time, but Botes believes that performance levels will improve as the competition progresses.
