Match Summary

  • Uganda 134/8
  • Namibia 135/5
  • Namibia won by 5 wickets

The Cricket Cranes lost to the Eagles of Namibia in their first warm-up game ahead of the T20 Men’s World Cup in the West Indies.

Uganda won the toss and chose to bat first in the night match. Both sides are allowed to exhaust their resources in warm-up games with each side allowed to use all 15 squad players.

The late arrival of Simon Ssesazi meant that Robinson Obuya slots in at the top of the order with Ronak Patel.

Obuya (38) showed aggression at the top of the order despite Ronak Patel and Alpesh Ramjani falling cheaply.

Roger Mukasa (51) notched up a well-constructed half-century but he failed to get support from the middle order The failure to hold by the middle order led to Uganda setting a very modest total of 134/8 in their 20 overs.

In the chase, Uganda bowled with purpose pushing the game until the 18th over but a lack of enough runs ultimately denied them victory. Cosmas Kyewuta (1/13) and Henry Ssenyondo (2/14) were outstanding with ball in hand in a competitive encounter.

Head coach Abhay Sharma will be content with the shift from his boys. He will be more impressed that the runs were scored by the top and if only his reliable middle order had come to the party the result could have been different.

Uganda will take on Scotland in their next warm game on Thursday.
