2025 Kataka Memorial Football Tournament (Bulesa):

• Official opening match: Counsel Deric 2-0 Nkumba Boys
• Friday, 13^th June: Team Allan 3-1 Friends of Football

The famous Kataka Memorial football tournament (Bulesa) is back with vibrancy at the Nkumba primary school playground (Kataka) in Katabi Town council, Wakiso district.

Known for luring mammoth gatherings due to the capacity of having different football stars from across the country in the Uganda Premier League and FUFA Big League, the tournament has over the years grown in stature and relevance.

The official opening match for this year’s edition was played on Thursday, 12^th June 2025 with action between favourites and crowd-pullers Team Counsel Deric and Nkumba Boys.

By close of business, Counsel Deric won 2-0 with goals coming from team captain Ashiraf “Fadiga” Mugume and Saidi Mayanja.

Both players play in Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The second match came on Friday, 13^th June 2025 with Team Allan triumphing 3-1 over Friends of Football.

Sam Ssemugugu, a striker with Lugazi Football Club in Uganda’s top flight division netted a brace with Umar Kayemba adding the other.

Shafic Doku got the consolation for Friends of Football team.

Next in line:

Lake View Kitinda will take on Kabale in Saturday evening’s match on 14^th June 2025.

ABC and Sunday Special will then feature in Sunday’s game.

All the matches take place at the Kataka playground in Nkumba.

The tournament brings together football spectators and other revelers as they remember the lives of those departed souls who had a contribution in the development of football around Nkumba, Tanda, Katabi, Abaita Ababiri, Lyamutundwe, Kabale, Mpala, Kitala, Kisubi, Kawuku and the surrounding areas.

The 2025 Kataka Memorial football tournament started well as we continue to remember the souls of our dear ones who lost their lives and strengthen their families. We expect a great championship. We urge all the players to remain disciplined as urge the fans to come in big numbers. Willing sponsors and partners are also called to join and support this cause

This tournament was first played to remember the departed Sam Bulesa, a former winger with Nkumba Kataka Football Club.

Bulesa perished in a road accident in Abaita Ababiri near the Kasenyi road junction in 2010.

Later on, other deceased footballers who followed suit as goalkeepers Francis Ssenyonjo (Ambassador) and Frank Musisi Kibuuka, Philly Lutaaya, Julius Akampa, Dan Kabila, and lately Bruno “Muchooli” Sserunkuma and others have also joined the list.

Entry for all fans is Ug.Shs 2000 at the preliminary round matches.

The top performers will take home different prizes ranging from trophy, medals, jerseys, balls to animals (bull and a he-goat).

The winning team will take gold medals, set of jerseys, a bull and a glittering trophy.
