  • South Africa 1-0 Morocco

South Africa’s U-20 national team are the champions of the TotalEnergies Africa Nations Cup in the category after overcoming Morocco 1-0 in the final at the June 30 stadium in Cairo.

Gomolemo Kekana scored the winning goal in the 70th minute to hand the Amajita only their maiden trophy in the competition.

The historic feat meant that for the first time in history of the competition, South Africa beat an opponent from North Africa having failed on five previous occasions.

The goal, awarded after a VAR review was decisive in a closely contested tie and avenged defeat in the U-20 1997 final which the South Africans lost to Morocco.

South Africa’s victory marks their first-ever youth continental triumph and adds them to a growing list of recent debut winners, following Senegal’s 2023 success.
