Sports Club Villa recorded a hard-fought 2-1 home win over BUL on match day 3 of the 2024/25 StarTimes Uganda Premier League during the Muteesa II Wankulukuku stadium, Kabowa on Wednesday, 26th September 2024.

Skipper Ronald Ssekiganda led the Jogoos by example with the opening goal before Hakim Ssemakula added the second as the second half restarted.

Dickson Mataama pulled back a goal for the visitors to create a worth tense finish to the game also watched by the current Uganda Cranes head coach Joseph Paul Put and his predecessor Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic.

Recovering from a 0-1 loss to league newcomers Mbale Heroes on match day two, SC Villa needed this exact result with a comeback victory before their home fans.

The Jogoos had a vibrant start to the game with Kiwanuka shooting wide. SC Villa forward Francis Onakalit quickly recovered from a knock to gallantly solider on.

BUL forward Matama registered a shot off target with the visitors’ first threat at the opposition goal.

On 7 minutes, Missi Diego Ssemugera executed a diagonal pass to the right flank that found Hakim Kiwanuka.

The Jogoos remained soul searching tempting BUL goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa to come off the line to thwart a move after 12 minutes.

Kiwanuka assisted Ronald Ssekiganda as the former headed home past goalkeeper Mutakubwa in the 17th minute to light up the game.

The 18-time league winners garnered more confidence with Kakande’s fancy step-over footwork exciting the SC Villa fans in the stands before the diminutive playmaker back-heeled to Aslam Ssemakula for a cross delivery on the left flank.

Elsewhere, Vipers was held to a non-scoring stalemate with newcomers Lugazi at the Lugazi stadium in Najjembe.
