Put laments missed chances as Uganda Cranes held by Gambia

Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put expressed disappointment over a draw, feeling his team deserved a better outcome after their performance against Gambia.
The two teams played to a 1-1 tie in an international friendly at the Stade de Marrakech on Monday, June 9, 2025.
In the post-match press conference, Put remained optimistic about the team’s potential for improvement. “We deserved more than a draw; when you consider the chances we missed, it’s difficult to win a game,” he stated.
He acknowledged that while it’s acceptable not to score frequently, it’s crucial not to concede. The Uganda Cranes were awarded a penalty that led to Gambia’s equaliser, which Put questioned, saying, “The penalty we conceded was not very clear.” He added, “We had opportunities to finish the game with a two- or three-goal lead.”
Rogers Kassim Mato opened the scoring for Uganda Cranes before Maneh Alasana equalised from the penalty spot.
Put made several changes to the squad compared to their previous game against Cameroon. “The players have been working very hard in this heat, and I’ve seen many positive things from the two matches. I’m happy that the team is creating chances,” he remarked.
With the CHAN and AFCON tournaments approaching, Uganda will continue to prepare for the continental championships.
