One out of the three teams who will be making their way down to the Championship next season has already been confirmed.

Arua Hill, relegated after falling short of minimum club licensing regulations and had their license revoked.

They will be joined by two other teams come Saturday May 18 when the league ends with Busoga United (25), Gaddafi (25) and UPDF (24) all candidates.

What do Busoga United need to be safe?

Jeremy Matata

Busoga United need victory over BUL in the final match to survival the drop regardless of results elsewhere involving their rivals.

However, they will also stay if UPDF fall at Wakiso Giants and Kitara beat Gaddafi even if they are to lose to BUL. In short, match results from UPDF and Gaddafi matches and Busoga stays.

Gaddafi must win at Kitara and pray Busoga United drop points in their fixture with title chasing BUL.

Regardless of result from UPDF vs Wakiso Giants, Gaddafi will stay if Busoga United falter.

The army side must beat Wakiso Giants and hope either of Gaddafi or Busoga United don’t pick maximum points.

A draw could also save them as long as both lose but that will depend on their head-to-head records.

Could the relegation battle be decided on head-to-head rankings?

Yes. There is a possibility of all the three ending on same points (25) if UPDF draw at Wakiso Giants and then Busoga United and Gaddafi lose to BUL and Kitara respectively.

Then, the head-to-head will come in play. Also, if UPDF win and the two Jinja sides post same results, they will be separated by head-to-head.

Who has a better head-to-head ranking amongst each other?

Now, this is interesting and confusing as well. Having beaten UPDF 2-1 at home and drawn 1-1 away, Gaddafi leads the Bombo based army side in this aspect.

However, they lost to Busoga United 1-0 and drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture which puts them below their Jinja rivals here.

Then UPDF beat Busoga United 2-0 home and away and are on top here. Check out the official UPL table .

With that circus in the head to head, league organisers ought to turn to other tie breakers to determine who stays and who goes.
