Pearl Rally throws NRC championship wide open

The just concluded Pearl of Africa rally produced a new championship leader.
With three rounds contested so far, Ronald Sebuguzi now assumes the national rally championship lead. The Shell sponsored driver is yet to win a round though.
Sebuguzi is only 9.5 points ahead of newly promoted Musa Ssegabwe with four rounds to go.
But the Pearl Rally last weekend threw in a potential contender in Duncan Mubiru.
Mubiru and Joseph Kamya in their Ford Fiesta Proto won the national category.
The Kikankane team had a sublime performance which was characterised with some top three stage times. The Shell sponsored crew was in a mix with ARC contenders finishing second overall and top on NRC.
Mubiru’s victory puts him fourth in the standings; two points behind Ponsiano Lwakataka who had led the championship coming into the Mbarara event. Lwakataka left Mbarara empty handed after dropping out on Leg 1.
Yasin Nasser who finished second in the NRC category is also involved in the top five dogfight. He however will have some work to do to upstage Didas Matsiko who is two points ahead of him. Only seven points separate third placed Lwakataka from sixth placed Nasser.
With the Pearl round now well behind, drivers will take a seven weeks’ break before returning to action in July.
The fourth of seven championship rounds will be in Kayunga from 11-13 July, 2025.
Provisional Drivers’ Standings
Ronald Sebuguzi 142
Musa Ssegaabwe 132.5
Ponsiano Lwakataka 117
Duncan Mubiru 115
Didas Masiko 112
Yasin Nasser 110
Aine Sodo 102.5
