Dear Freeman News UG

I would like to bring to your attention an error in your June 17, 2025 publication regarding the nomination of Mafabi Asha Nabulo for the NRM flag bearer for the Sironko District Woman Member of Parliament. The article titled “Breaking News: Mafabi Asha Nabulo Nominated Unopposed as Opponent/Incumbent Minister Nambozo Chickens Out of NRM Primaries” contains a factual inaccuracy that needs correction.

In the section titled “What You Need to Know,” your article states: “Nabulo is the current Woman MP in Sironko District after winning the election in 2021 on an independent ticket.” This is incorrect. The current Woman MP for Sironko District is Hon. Florence Nambozo, who was elected in 2021 and also serves as the Minister for Karamoja Affairs, not Mafabi Asha Nabulo. This discrepancy highlights the importance of fact-checking and verifying information before publication, especially when reporting on matters of national interest.

Additionally, Hon. Florence Mayoga’s decision to step aside from the NRM primaries was not due to fear or weakness, but rather a response to the unfairness in the Lumolo-headed NRM electoral process. His undue interference and manipulation during the NRM village structure elections at Mutufu undermined the level playing field essential for a fair political contest. By pulling out of the primaries, Hon. Mayoga has paved the way for genuine competition, placing her trust in the national Electoral Commission process, which provides all candidates a fair opportunity to present themselves to the electorate.

This approach not only strengthens internal party democracy but also enhances the credibility of leaders elected through a transparent process. Your article also suggests that Hajji Lumolo’s influence could lead to change in 2026. That assertion is also misleading. The real power in Sironko lies with the electorate—the people who cast their votes and choose their leaders. Political influence must not be overstated, especially when it undermines the agency of the voters.

Unlike Hon. Mayoga, who has forged her own path in leadership, Ms. Asha Nabulo’s political journey is seen by many as a product of privilege. While her background may hint at potential, her perceived arrogance, rebellion, and contradictory character traits have alienated many voters. Though some may find a spark of vulnerability in her persona, she remains, to many in the electorate, an enigma—a puzzle yet to be solved.

As a respected news outlet, I urge Freeman News UG to uphold the fundamental journalistic values of accuracy, fairness, and responsibility. Trust in the media is built when facts are reported reliably, and when corrections are made transparently.

In light of the above, I kindly request that you either pull down the inaccurate article or revise it to reflect the correct information. Doing so will not only correct the record but also reinforce your credibility and commitment to truthful reporting.

Sincerely,

Mr. Bwayo Geoffrey
