NRM Delegates from Terego, Arua District, Arua City, and Madi-Okollo Throw Support Behind Calvin Echodu for Eastern Uganda Vice Chairperson

NRM delegates from the West Nile region have thrown their support behind David Calvin Echodu as he seeks the position of NRM National Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Region. The decision was made during a meeting that brought together party leaders and members from Terego, Arua District, Arua City, and Madi-Okollo.
Alion Boniface, the NRM Chairperson for Arua District, led the call to support Echodu, emphasizing the importance of staying rooted in the party’s grassroots. He urged Echodu to follow the example set by the late Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, a leader widely admired for uniting people. “Stand firm with the structural members,” Alion advised. “We remember Jacob Oulanyah—may his soul rest in peace—as a powerful force for unity in our region. We hope you will walk in his footsteps.”
Joining him were other regional leaders such as David Agwara (Madi-Okollo NRM Chairperson), Amanguru Joice (NRM Chairperson for Arua City), and Alfadeo James (General Secretary for Terego District). The group expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of some current members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC), accusing them of losing touch with the region after securing their positions. “The people have been forgotten,” said one delegate. “It’s time to inject fresh energy into the leadership.”
Sarah Onyeru, a former Chief Administrative Officer and aspiring Woman MP for Terego, also spoke in support of Echodu. She described him as a selfless and compassionate individual who has been instrumental in supporting his community in Teso. Referring to him as a “business philanthropist,” she said, “Calvin is the kind of leader the President has been looking for.” She urged citizens to elect leaders with a consistent record of service.
Calvin Echodu, born in Soroti in 1973, is known for his commitment to community empowerment. In his address to the delegates, he pledged to revitalize the party from the grassroots. “I’m here to bring new energy to the NRM,” he said. “We’ll form Saccos to strengthen party structures, stay engaged with communities on the ground, and focus on cadre recruitment and training.”
A Resident District Commissioner (RDC) who worked with Echodu in Soroti also praised his leadership and character. “Calvin is like a brother,” he shared. “He’s a visionary leader with the ability to take the party to the next level.”
The delegates left the meeting united in their support for Echodu, convinced that his leadership would bring positive change and renewed direction to both the NRM and the Eastern Region.
