The Queen of Buganda Kingdom Nnaabagereka Slyvia Nagginda Luswata was the chief guest as Lake Victoria School Entebbe celebrated 100 years of existence since 1924.

Nnaabegereka Nagginda is among the famous old students from the school that initially had two sections – a lower part P1-P3 (The Common) and the upper P4-P7 (The Euro), accommodating children of the colonial elite cluster.

Addressing the celebrants during the century celebrations held at the school main playground on Saturday, 21st September 2024, the Nnaabagereka vividly recollected her sporting memories at the school as a former runner.

It is with great pleasure that we gather here to celebrate the centenary celebrations of our great institution Lake Victoria School Entebbe. I warmly welcome each and every one of you to these celebrations of this great school. As an alumnus, I cherish the great memories from my time here. I fondly recall running on this very sports ground where I won many races for my house (Blue). I am so glad that Lake Victoria School still has a school sports field where the pupils can exercise.

The Nnaabagereka hinted of the great values sports taught her as a person which have helped her live a decent life since then.

“Sports instilled in me a sense of sportsmanship, teamwork and determination which helped me throughout my entire life. This school nurtured countless young minds, generation of leaders, innovators, scholars and important citizens who have made remarkable contributions across various fields” She added.

She commended the school management committee and vowed to help in the construction of an administration block that will be named after her.

The Nnabagereka was accorded a heroine’s welcome to school she last attended 49 years ago.

She was received by the current head teacher Steven Nabenda, the members of the school management committee (PTA), pupils, old students and well-wishers of this historic school.

The Nnaabagereka signed in the visitors’ book, had a guided tour around the school touring the classroom blocks and planted a tree in front of the main administrative building.

Afterwards, she toured the plastic recycling village that was put in with assistance from the Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC).

“Many things have changed and others have not like I saw there is still the old uniform like we put on. There is an innovation like the medicinal gardens; we never used to have such which improves children’s skills as they return to their homes” Nnaabagereka Nagginda added.

The current head teacher of Lake Victoria School Entebbe Steven Nabenda commended the old students and parents for witnessing the growth of the school.

Nabenda urged for more collaborations and support to restore the past glory of the school; requesting for help to put in place a computer laboratory in a bid to meet the changing trends of science and technology.

The Mayor of Entebbe Municipality His Worship Fabrice Rulinda led a fundraising drive for the new building block with Ug.Shs 5,000,000.

NRM leader Shaka Gashaija promised 100 bags of cement and a new solar panel.

Other leaders and aspiring politicians swiftly joined suit with cash contributions and pledges.

The century celebrations for Lake Victoria School Entebbe also had legal clinic, medical camp, massive tree planting drive and a mini-marathon.

A number of corporate entities as Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC), Stabex International, Equity Bank, Uganda Airforce and others joined in supporting the celebrations.
