Following a bright season on the pitch and heavily trying moments off it, Vipers SC midfielder Paul Mucureezi was this week voted as the club’s Fans’ Player of the Season for the 2020/21 campaign.

The announcement was made via the team’s official social media handles on Wednesday, July 28, 2021.

“Congratulations Paul Mucureezi, the Fans’ player of the Season 2020/21” the post read before adding; “The Venoms have spoken, with all the votes from Facebook, Twitter and Instagram tallied, we can only say Mucureezi is the winner.”

While speaking to Football256, Mucureezi noted that the best is yet to come from him.

“The best is yet to come from me. I believe I have not yet given the fans and the team at large my very best, but with time, I will hit the mark,” Mucureezi noted.

“Well, I have to thank all the fans that voted for me. I have to say I am proud of them, and I am only looking forward to a better season ahead since I have now fully settled.”

“Last season was quite a tricky one as you all saw it. But I tried to use every single minute to do what I am required to do, and I am happy the fans can recognise it.”

When asked which match emerged the best for him last season, he found it hard to pick out any noting; “I had a couple of good games and trust me, it is very hard to pick out one since all came with different feelings.”

However Mucureezi could not forget his hardest opponent; “ Wow, I rarely mark players to be hard opponents. However I can not forget Alex Emmanuel (Wasswa). The ‘dude’ gave me a hard time surely,” he concluded.

The award which was given out for the first time had four nominees including left-back Aziz Kayondo, midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga, Yunus Ssentamu and Paul Mucureezi.

The 28-year-old midfielder scored 10 goals from the 24 games played in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League 2020/21 season most of them as a substitute.

The former KCCA FC midfielder joined Vipers in January 2019 on a three-year contract as a free agent after his employment contract expired at Mbarara City FC.
