Mbale city is alive. Premier League football has returned to the mountainous city with a hard fought 1-0 win for Mbale Heroes over the defending champions, Sports Club Villa.

Cosia Waiswa’s deft free-kick eluded the paraded defensive wall and maneuvered in the net on the near post inspired the Surgeons to a precious home victory over the Jogoos.

Waiswa perfectly curled home a great free kick past goalkeeper Jeans Braddy Wokorach from the edge of the goal area for the treasured three points.

Mbale Heroes had received a rude welcome to the league when they fell 1-2 away to Express at Hamz Stadium on match day one, six days ago.

The three points mean a great deal of business with 28 more match days to come (home and away) and a confidence booster to the darling fans that traveled from within Mbale city, the neighbouring Sironko, Bududa, Bukedea, Tororo and Jinja.

Mbale Heroes made a return to the Uganda Premier League after 18 years.

On match day three, Mbale Heroes visit Wakiso Giants this coming Friday, 27th September 2024 at the Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium, Wakiso.

Sports Club Villa returns to action on Thursday, 26th September 2024 with a home duel against BUL at the Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium.
